Abstract

The paper deals with an infestation of hedges with particular attention to the contribution of invasive alien species. the study was conducted in the south-western part of the city of Siedlce between 2014 and 2016. Floristic inventories were carried out in the habitats included in the study. Hedges in that area are habitats of invasive alien species that are growing in number. a total of 175 species were found in the hedges, 33 of which are consid-ered to be invasive aliens in Poland. among them, the following trees and shrubs are particularly threatening for hedgerows: Acer negundo, Fraxinus pennsylvanica, Rhus typhina, Padus serotina, Robinia pseudoacacia. their negative impact is caused by their strong competition, especially for light, resulting in hedge plants giving way to invasive species. among them Acer negundo was the most common, taking up the most space and its incidence was particularly high in hedges of Ligustrum vulgare.
