Abstract

Behaviour of phosphorus in soil is an important issue related both to crop production and to environmental quality. To mitigate the pressure of agricultural activities on the environment, knowledge about the key factors of nutrients retention in soil is needed. This paper looks into the sorption of phosphorus which occurs in soil catena of Luvisols and Pheozems. Backward regression analysis was used in this study to develop equations allowing to
predict Langmuir sorption parameters. The results showed that maximal sorption capacity is a function of organic carbon, amorphous aluminium oxides, an exchangeable Ca2+ and a plant available P content. The Langmuir sorption coefficient b was determined by clay fraction content, aluminium and iron oxides and as well as amorphous iron oxides.
